Rex's fiddles

 

Rex plays scandinavian music on a modern 11 string fiddle. The design is unique but derives from a viola d’amore, which has 14 strings. In this case there are the 5 bowed strings typical of a 5 string fiddle, but tuned for Scandinavian music: D A D A E.

For British music he plays a beautiful English fiddle, the 36th violin made by Thomas Simpson of Handsworth in 1906

Les violons de Rex
Rex joue un bel violon anglais, le  36e fait par Thomas Simpson de Handsworth en 1906. Pour notre répertoire suèdoise il prefere sa viola d'amore à 11 cordes dont 6 resonantes. Il se tourne de temps en temps à un violon électrique Yamaha SV110K, ou un violon français du 19ème siècle de l'école de Mirecourt.
